    Derivation of the name:

    Acacia; from Greek ‘acis’, a thorn.

    fimbriata: from the Latin ‘Fimbria’ meaning ‘a fringe’ and refers to the fringe of hairs near the base of the phyllodes or flattened leaf-stalks that resemble and function as leaves.
