    Common Names: Barbed Wire Grass. Other names are Lemon Scented Grass, Turpentine Grass and Kangaroo Grass

    Derivation of the name:

    Cymbopogon: derives from the Greek words ‘kymbe’ meaning ‘boat’ and ‘pogon’ meaning ‘beard’ which (in most species), refer to the hairy spikelets projecting from boat-shaped spathes or leaf-like membranes enclosing the flower.
