The following images are all of plant specimens taken and catalogued by Frank Box between 1987 and 1989. Most are from Grange Forest Park with a few from Sparkes Hill, Chermside Hills or other local bushland areas. They represent a fabulous resource for our group(and perhaps for others?) as they provide at least some reliable reference for native plants that are probably indigenous to our area.
In a recent visit to Grange Forest Park a Habitat Brisbane officer identified an unusual plant that was flowering as Zieria Smithii or sandfly bush. When the following specimen records were consulted it was confirmed that a specimen of this same species had been collected in exactly the same location in February of 1987 – exactly 33 years previously. These kind of detailed records are invaluable for tracking change and making decisions about what species to plant in specific areas.
